🎶We Didn't Start the Fire 🎶

I am pretty sure it has always been burning!

Crackling Fire sounds

Did you just hear me yell, “Alexa play FIREPLACE CRACKLING SOUNDS"!” Yes, yes you did. You have to set the ambiance my friends.

Imagine sitting by the fire with your closest friends. Those friends include a stout Dwarf, a regal Elf, a small Gnome, an Earth Genasi, and a large Dragonborn. The most unlikely group of comrades laughing, eating, burping, and sharing tales of their lives before joining this party of misfits. All of a sudden, the group hears a “CRASH” in the forest. The little Gnome squints his eyes to see a large Owlbear at the base of a large Elm tree. The party looks at each other with a combination of fear and excitement.

"Please Roll Initiative” The Dungeon Master says with a smirk.

Now, doesn’t that sound fun? Come on admit it!

This game was created in the early 70’s as a tabletop role-playing game. You are able to create your own character with different skills and abilities to join in with a party of friends to reach an ultimate goal such as defeating all of the bad guys. Or the bad guys defeat you (*cough* Death House *cough*), either way it is truly a delight.

The most enjoyable part of this game is the community you get to build. The D&D people are incredible; they all want to bring new players in and are happy to teach beginners so they can get in on the magic as well. Between the Dungeon Master and the players, everyone’s story is woven together and told so that you can see the game so vividly! Oh, you are going to fight an Owlbear? Well, here is an in-depth explanation of what it looks like, smells like, and how it kills you. So fun.

The difficult part of D&D is trying to get everyone’s schedules to align so that you can play these 3–4-hour gaming sessions. One of my favorite campaigns fizzled because we sadly could not get our schedules aligned. So, now I will always wonder what happened to my “Fire Genasi-Barbarian” who just found out she was a long lost princess, and is currently being held in a dungeon somewhere. TBD eternally, I guess!

If you are new to D&D or simply eagerly waiting for your next session with your friends, I recommend a few D&D podcasts to pass the time! Two of my favs include:

If you have played before, I would love to know more about one of your favorite characters that you have created!! Name, what they look like, traits and abilities, etc. GIVE ME THE TEA! Speaking of Tea, Imma go make some!

Henry the Falcon flies away after delivering this long-lost letter. Don’t worry he will be back soon.
